While Fighting for 5th Place - Transmission Problems End Night for Jesus Hernandez and the Waste Management Team Radford, VA (4-17-05) - After lasts weeks 5th place finish, Jesus Hernandez and the Waste Management Team were pumped up and ready to attack the Motor Mile Speedway this weekend. Practice went well and after making changes after last week’s race, they were ready to go. Jesus Hernandez, the 23-year-old Fresno, Calif., driver of the No. 17 Waste Management, qualified 10th. “The car was fast, we were decent in qualifying and with the changes we made we were ready to get up on the wheel and go.” By lap ten Jesus Hernandez had worked his way up to 6th position. “The car was fast. I noticed that all night nobody could pass on the outside, so I got up on the wheel and ran it hard passing on the outside. I wanted to get to 5th and then ride until the first caution to make some adjustments on the car and go.” While going down the straightaway battling for fifth position the transmission seized up and when Hernandez hit the brakes the driver behind him plowed into Jesus sending him into the wall and ending the night early for the team. “All in all we all really pleased. We have new cars, a new team and a new driver and everything seems to be coming together. The spotter did a good job, the team has come together great and Sam Belnavis gives us everything we need to get the job done. We just need to get rid of these little bugs and go get it done.”
