My Dad, Jack Scites, Competed in the NASCAR series in the
late 60"s early 70"s. Jack Scites then decided to quit
racing and bought Davin a go-kart when he was five years
old and that's when it all began.
Competing for many years in go-karts and winning in West
Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky, Davin felt he was ready to
move up and decided to buy a Legend Car.
Davin's first race was Ona, West Virginia where he won
that night. He competed in legends for three years and
in that time won Three National Championships, Two At
Charlotte Motor speedway, and a Road Course at Firebird
Raceway, Phoenix, Arizona.
Deciding to pursue a career in racing rather than
pursing college, Davin progressed to the NASCAR Late
Model Series.
"Racing is something I've wanted to do my whole life,"
says Davin "In 1996, when I was attending Marshall
University, the time came for me to make a choice about
my future: I either had to focus on racing full-time, or
decide on a new profession and begin training for it. I
chose racing, and I've never looked back."
He began driving five hours each way to the Carolinas to
compete in NASCAR Late Model Stocks at various tracks in
the south. "Late Models taught me a lot going to big
races at Myrtle Beach, Martinsville, New River Valley
and many other tracks."
In 2000 he ran a limited schedule for two seasons in ASA.
In 2003 ran a full schedule becoming the only Rookie to
win a race in ASA 2003 season.
In 2004 SS Racing called Davin to Drive Ten Races in ASA,
He Moved to Indianapolis, IN where he raced, worked on
the cars, and also was a crew chief from time to time.
Davin entered his first ARCA ReMax Race at Chicagoland. Davin Started 34th and finished 6th.
In 2008-2009 Season Davin drove and maintained the Champion Spark Plugs lat model Stock car for Dale Jr. Motorsports. Davin has over 13 poles including three track records at Martinsville Speedway.
As ’08 transitioned into ’09, the driver of the no. 06
was moving out of the sprawling, 66,000-square-foot
facility on Cayuga Drive in Mooresville, NC. And
although the severance from JR Motorsports had some
setbacks, it also left Davin Scites eyeing new
opportunities.
In his first official year racing under the JR
Motorsports banner, Scites scored the best season of his
career in 2008. For the second straight year, a
three-win season at Motor Mile Speedway resulted in a
career-best third place finish in the track standings.
The racer’s efforts were reflected in the WHELEN
All-American Series state and national standings, where
the Wayne, WV, native produced personal bests, posting
finishes of second and thirteenth, respectively.
On the strength of a record-setting season, Scites and
the no. 06 team put their dominance on display at
Martinsville. Shattering his old track record, Scites
posted a 20.316-second pole run while qualifying for the
Bailey’s 300.
But not even two months later, in the wake of an
economic downturn, JR Motorsports downsized, dropping
four cars from its five-car Late Model fleet.
“It’s real tough to get sponsorships,” Scites says. “You
know if Dale Earnhardt Jr. can’t get ‘em, then that
makes it even harder on the little guys.”
Davin has many more chapters to fill...and many more
championships and races to win.
